Visum Light History

Sharon Katzke, founder of Visum Light, is an engineer by trade, which makes her a born skeptic. When her beloved horse, Sport, was suffering, she purchased a photonic light therapy device to relieve pain and hasten healing. She’d discovered the science but was doubtful that photobiomodulation (scientific formal name for light therapy) could help her horse.

Sharon had two questions: Would it work? And had she wasted her money? Sport answered those questions for her. The first time she used the photonic therapy on her beloved horse, Sport dropped his head, sighed deep, and turned to look her right in the eye – all obvious signs of pain relief.

And the science is in that says photobiomodulation therapy works! Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), previously known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), or light therapy, is the application of red and near-infrared light over injuries or lesions to improve wound and soft tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and give relief for both acute and chronic pain.

Still, Sharon is an engineer with a designer’s mind. The device she purchased was awkward to hold, rolled off flat surfaces, had a stubborn toggle switch, and offered only one choice out of the broad spectrum of available light therapy. Sharon knew she could design a photonic device that offered more; an affordable, durable, hand-held device that offers you not just PBM therapy, but a range of colors in the light therapy spectrum. And she believed she could do this for an affordable price for someone who wanted to benefit from light therapy.
